Revd David Hunt was born in Wembley,
Middlessex in 1952. After his schooling, he
studied for a degree in Natural Sciences at
Queens College, Cambridge University.
Following graduation, he spent six years
working as a government scientist at their
Building Research Station near Watford,
Hertfordshire. His research was mostly in the
area of energy conservation.

While at University David served as President
of the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian
Union (CICCU) and during his time at Building
Research he was active in the Christian
youth organisation, Crusaders, and a
member of Northwood Hills Evangelical
Church. He felt the call to train for full-time
Christian service in 1979, and took a two-year
course at the London Bible College.
Following the completion of his course, he was invited to become an assistant to Revd
Derek Prime, senior Pastor at Charlotte Baptist Chapel in Edinburgh, a large
city-centre church. There his responsibilities included Discipleship Classes and work
amongst students and young couples.
Following two years in Edinburgh, David received a call to pastor the Renfrew Baptist
Church, a medium-sized church of around 130 members to the west of Glasgow.
After five fruitful years of ministry in Renfrew, David received an invitation to move to the south east
of Glasgow to pastor the Baptist Church in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. This was
a larger church of some 320 members, with a full and varied programme of activities.
In 1999, David felt the time was right to move on from Hamilton and accepted a call to
become Association Minister for the Northern Baptist Association of England, with
special responsibility for encouraging the 51 churches of the Association in their work
of mission.
This three-year post came to an end in January 2002, and David was asked to assist
the work at Durham Road on a six-month interim basis whilst seeking a new
appointment. However, as there were evident signs of God at work in the church during
his initial six-month stay, the Church invited David to stay on beyond his initial period
of appointment, which he has been glad to do.
David is married to Elma, and they have three sons: Andrew, who teaches maths at Oundle
School near Peterborough (from September 2006); Richard, who is serving for a year as a Parish
Assistant at St Andrew's the Great Church (from September 2006); and Christopher who attends a
local secondary school.
David's interests include photography, tennis, music and gardening (of necessity!)
David serves as the founder-chairman of IREF(UK), the UK support arm of an
indigenous Indian Mission, the India Rural Evangelical Fellowship.
